• Overview

Wix gives you full control on how to best present your website to make it as compatible as possible on all resolutions.

  • Control the Width and Height of your Wix site

The optimum resolution for viewing a site across browsers is: a width that is between 940-1000 and a height of 650. However, you are welcome to change the size of your Wix site to a size that best suits you. This will alter the way that your site appears in the web browsers of your users.
Note: If you set width to more than 1000, users with lower resolutions will have to scroll to the right to see your full website.
    To change your site’s dimensions:
    1. From the top menu of your Editor, click Settings.
    2. From the Site Settings window, click the Appearance tab.
    3. From the Appearance tab, under Site Dimensions, in the Width and Height fields, type in the width and height.
    4. Click OK.
The size of your site changes.
Note: Uncheck keep aspect ratio if you would like to set the proportions yourself.

  • Changing Your Viewing Mode

The viewing mode of your site determines how your site’s visitors see your website in their browser. We recommend setting your viewing mode to True Size and by default your site will be set to this setting. If you would like to choose an alternate viewing mode, be sure to test the viewing mode across different browsers and screen sizes.
Note: If you are using the HTML Widget, keep your site set to True Size.
    To change your viewing mode:
    1. From the top menu of your Editor, click Settings.
    2. From the Site Settings window, click the Appearance tab.
    3. From the Appearance tab, under Viewing Mode, choose True Size, Best Fit or Fit to Width.
    4. Click OK.
The viewing mode of your site changes.

    True Size:

Setting your site to True Size means that your site's appearance will be a true reflection of the actual measurements that you have set in your Editor (width and height) – no matter what computer and browser your site's visitor is using. By default we recommend True Size, however, if your site is currently set to True Size and you feel that its appearance is too small or too big – you can either play around with the size settings or change the site scaling to Best Fit.
Please note that there is no magic default size as every user uses a different screen size and resolution. Today most internet users have a screen width of 1024. If you set width to more than 1000, users with lower resolutions will have to scroll to the right to see your full website.

    Best Fit:

Best Fit scales your website to fit your user’s screen.
Please note that there will be some differences in the look of the resized website. Text in particular may become too small to be readable with smaller screen and browser sizes and Browser Text may appear differently.
If you have viewed your site and it appears to be tiny, open your internet browser window to its fullest – if the website adapts itself to fit the browser window, then your site is set to Best Fit. We recommend using the True Size option as some viewers may not understand that making the browser window bigger will also make the site appear larger.

    Fit to Width

Fit to Width scales your website to match the width of your user's browser window i.e. no horizontal scrolling will take place.
It is similar to Best Fit, except that instead of fitting all of the dimensions of your site to the browser, it only fits your site to the width of the browser. If your website is long, then a vertical scrollbar will appear.
Please note that there will be some differences in the look of the resized website. Text in particular may become too small to be readable with smaller screen and browser sizes and Browser Text may appear differently.

Overview: Controlling The Size of Your Wix Online

As there are many different screen resolutions it is not possible to make a website appear as a full page on all of them. This challenge is common to all website design: Flash or HTML, large or small, everybody suffers from the same problem.
That said, there are some things you can do to optimize your Wix site so that it is a full page for as many of your site visitors as possible. For example, you can optimize your website's background color.

Take a look at these Yahoo and MSN screenshots: they have adjusted the background color surrounding their sites as one way of meeting this challenge.

Control the color around your Wix site

You can easily change the background color that is outside of the borders of your site. This is another way many websites overcome the challenge - they make the surrounding background color of their sites look good. To try this:
    1. From the top menu of your Editor, click Settings.
    2. From the Site Settings window, click the Appearance tab.
    3. From the Appearance tab, under Site Background Color, click Replace.
    4. From the Fill Picker that opens, click a new color. Click Close, then click OK.
